Finale
Session 3 of 4
Saturday, January 29, 2022 • 5:00 PM EST
Instructor: Jason Krug
The Finale music notation software is incredibly flexible and powerful…and fiendishly difficult to master. Whether a complete novice or seasoned veteran, there’s something for every user of Finale in this four-class track. Class 1 focuses on entering notes, expressions, and articulations. Class 2 focuses on using Finale specifically to write for handbells. Class 3 deals with page layout and making the final product look its best. Class 4 is a workshop for attendees to get help with their own Finale conundrums. Participants are encouraged to use their own computers with any version of Finale to follow along! It is strongly recommended that attendees watch the class on a different device than the one on which they intend to use Finale.
00:25:36 Christy Glynn: If writing for hand bells with a choir, it sometimes helps ringers to see lyrics at key transitions. Widening the staff to add words as cues. is that acceptable then return system to smaller size after that cue?
00:26:04 Diane Barnes: these techniques are so slick!
00:29:45 Pat M: How can I start with one stave and after one or two lines, add bass clef to the end or maybe end as in the beginning: last 8 or so measures only in treble or bass clef?
00:44:21 Christy Glynn: Can you change the time signature and use more measures in the convoluted sections for legibility and layout reasons?
00:44:53 Christy Glynn: Exactly!
00:46:10 Sharon Dinwiddie: If writing a bell tree duet, I will still need two lines in a system but both need to be treble. Can that work?
00:47:23 Sharon Dinwiddie: Yayy
00:52:44 Christy Glynn: So we can use ghost bar lines (dashed) to subdivide difficult passages we arrange to mentally support ringers in their reading abilities. What was that tool for bar line options again, please?
00:52:49 Christy Glynn: Taking notes.
00:54:33 Diane Barnes: Sweet with the edit measure number fixing the fount size! My choir will love that with the next piece I have arranged for them!
00:54:57 Christy Glynn: This is awesome. thank you!
00:59:27 Diane’s iPhone: How do you hide a rest in one layer?
00:59:41 Eileen Raycroft: Hurray! No extra page turn!
00:59:42 Christy Glynn: What about metronome markings? Where are they?
01:05:09 Christy Glynn: Thank you, Jason.
01:06:49 Diane Barnes: H works in simple entry
01:09:33 Eileen Raycroft: Great class as usual!
01:10:03 Sharon Dinwiddie: Thank you! I will be replaying the sessions at about five minutes at a time1
01:10:09 Eileen Raycroft: Can you write a book specifically for Handbells in Finale?
01:10:24 Christy Glynn: Seriously, Jason!
01:10:45 dp: Processing the information but have a question for tomorrow. Thank for going thru this. Some of it I was aware of but I did learn some new tricks.
01:11:01 Jerry Clark: Thank you very much!
01:11:10 Marcia Payne Wooten: thank you
01:11:14 Diane Barnes: bye
